Lecture by author and historian Jim Coogan. During the Great Age of Sail, nothing personified the strength and innovation of the American maritime industry more than the clipper ship. Yet the period that these wonderful examples of naval architecture ruled the sea was relatively short; following the Civil War, the decline of these sharp wooden ships was rapid.
