Historical Society of Santuit and Cotuit opens its newly renovated Cotuit Museum during the festival weekend. Beautiful exhibit highlighting the story of the whaling industry and the often forgotten impact of the early Cape Cod industry on the small village of Cotuit.

3rd Annual Ocean to the Bay Road Race

Location: Highland Light Road, North Truro
Five-mile run/walk from Highland Lighthouse to the bay and back, to benefit the lighthouse preservation. Awards, raffles and refreshments.

Cape Cod Stranding Network and the National Marine Life Center

A joint presentation on the stranding, rescue and rehabilitation of marine mammals and sea turtles on Cape Cod, by the Cape Cod Stranding Network (a project of IFAW) and the National Marine Life Center.

Kayak the Waterways of the Lower Cape
Time: 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Location: “First Light” on Nauset Marsh, Eastham
Investigate different coastal habitats during these exceptional kayak tours that include kayak instruction and environmental education. Certified kayak instructor and coastal educator, Dick Hilmer will lead you through sheltered creeks, into bays and marshes, and towards islands rich in cultural history. During the three-hour coastal exploration, the certified guides of Explore Cape Cod Tours will provide professional instruction in easy to paddle, comfortable and stable tandem kayaks. Perfect for novice or experienced paddlers. All equipment is provided. Saturday and Sunday price is $28 for adults and $20 for children 16 years of age or under. Tuesday and Friday paddles cost: $25/$18. Solo kayaks upon request.

Slide Lecture: Seafaring Cape Codders – Adventures on the Seven Seas

Award-winning local author Jim Coogan will recount the adventures of Cape Cod men, women and children who sailed to far away places in this one-hour lecture. Stories from Jim’s six books range from the dramatic to the bizarre, and are accompanied by historic images.

“Sloop” by Dan Robb: Book Signing & Display
Time: 3 to 4 p.m.
Location: Titcomb’s Bookshop, 432 Route 6A, East Sandwich
“Sloop” by Dan Robb tells the story of the restoration of a Herreshoff 12 ½, which has been in the author’s family for three generations. Robb introduces the reader to a wide range of local boatbuilders, sailors and craftsmen during the restoration process. Visit with the author, enjoy light refreshments and view the vintage Herreshoff 12 ½ “Betty,” which will be on display.
