Several post-secondary educational institutions operate in the Cape Cod area: Cape CodCommunity College in West Barnstable, The Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, and Sea Education Association in Woods Hole. UMass Dartmouth, which offers a Center for Marketing Research, is also nearby, as is Curry College at Plymouth, which is a full-service continuing education campus offering Master, Bachelor and certificate programs.
Cape Cod Community Collegeoffers two-year associate degree programs within its Division of Business, Health and Social Sciences and Division of Arts and Sciences, and counts 5,000 students enrolled in day and evening courses. It is also possible to obtain Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees on the Cape CodCommunity College campus. Attentive to the needs of the Cape’s work force, the College’s Office of Extended Studies develops educational partnerships with other colleges and universities, whereby students can attend classes at Cape CodCommunity College, yet earn Bachelors or Masters degrees from the partner institutions. For example, through Suffolk University of Boston, Community College students can receive Bachelor’s degrees in accounting, computer information systems, interdisciplinary business studies or public administration, as well as MBA or MPA degrees; or they could receive a Master of Social Work Degree in clinical social work practice from Boston University School of Social Work.
Another Cape Cod-area school for post-secondary education is the Massachusetts MaritimeAcademy.MassachusettsMaritimeAcademy is a co-educational institution where students can obtain Bachelor’s degrees in marine science, business and engineering, following four years of study, including a training period onboard the PatriotState.
Also with a maritime focus is the Sea Education Association. At SEA’s Woods Hole campus, students spend six months learning oceanography, nautical science and maritime studies, then go to sea for six weeks aboard either of two sailing vessels to practice what they have learned. Sea excursions go to the North Atlantic in summer, and the Caribbean or Gulf of Mexico in winter.
