Parents and students may seek private schooling for various reasons. Common ones are mixed-age classrooms, low student-to-teacher ratios, small total school population, alternative teaching methods, or a religious-based curriculum. Private schools exist on Cape Cod that satisfy some set of these criteria. Cape Cod Academy (grades K-12) in Osterville and FalmouthAcademy (grades 7-12) are the largest private schools on the Cape, and both have just celebrated 25-year anniversaries. Others are the Laurel School in Brewster and the new SandwichIndependentDay School. There are several Montessori schools on the Cape, and one WaldorfSchool, located in Bourne.
