“A Warm Salute to Maritime Thermometers Festival”

French TransAtlantic Cable 1869-1959
Time: 1 to 4 p.m.
Location: French Cable Station Museum, Cove Road and Route 28, Orleans
A guided tour of the museum, located in what was the actual station of the
French transatlantic cable linking France and the U.S. Much of the operating
equipment is still in place and the museum contains many of the artifacts of the
time, including samples of cable back to 1858.

Sea Turtles with Robert Prescott
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location: Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Route 6A, Brewster
Robert Prescott, executive director of the Massachusetts Audubon Society’s
Wellfleet Sanctuary and an expert on sea turtles, will speak on these fascinating
creatures and attempts to help them through the Sea Turtle Rescue Network. Wine
and cheese will be served.

Workhorse of the Salt Marsh

Location: Salt Pond Visitor Center, Eastham
Cape Cod National Seashore will present an illustrated talk about an important
survivor of local agricultural history – the 1850’s “hay barge” that once plied salt
marshes to gather salt hay, and was used to lay stretch of the historic French Cable.
Learn about the seashore’s plans to document and display the boat.
