Info Center Update
The Cape Cod Chamber visitor center at Route 6 WILL BE OPEN for the
season....and we actually anticipate a reopening of that site in May.
Here's the status. The Route 6 building has been gutted, new partitions
for office space installed along with new, energy efficient windows. This
week insulation was being installed and walls were prepped for electrical
and computer network wiring upgrades. Framing on the new addition was also
started.
The second building (once totally permitted) will be constructed on the
site. The exterior construction will be largely completed by late June -
with interior work continuing during high season. The existing building
will continue to serve visitors while the new building is being completed
inside.
Plans include keeping the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod as tenants in the
new building. This will facilitate some interesting displays of the Cape's
premier arts & cultural assets along with our traditional printed
pieces and broadcast information dissemination.
We are still awaiting word from the State about the McDonald's Corp.'s
addition to the Route 25 info center as well as the rebuilding of the
Route 3 center. But when that begins, it will not affect the operation of
the Route 25 visitor services and a temporary info site is planned for
Route 3. We'll keep you updated on the progress of these projects!

Coming soon: 2003 Cape Cod Compensation Survey |
 |
Cape Cod Human Resource
Association Sponsored by: Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce &
Workforce Investment Board
We all know that Cape Cod is unique - the types of businesses,
the types of jobs, and the labor market. We can't compare ourselves
to other parts of MA. We need information specifically for us.
Now, for the first time - there will be a compensation &
benefits survey - developed and conducted just for businesses on the
Cape.
Market data is the most important tool available to business
owners and managers. With this survey, we will:
- have the data needed to make good decisions about pay &
benefits
- know what the market is for our key jobs
- know what to offer new employees
- know where we stand
You will have the opportunity to participate in the survey this
Spring. You will be hearing from us soon.

Avoiding Hiring Hazards: I-9 Employment Verification Work
Shop |
 |
Do you know each mistake on an I-9 form could
cost you $1000? Couldn't you use that money in a better way? This
April 16th morning workshop will help you avoid mistakes and
simplify your hiring procedures.
The federal government has, since 1986, required a Form I-9 be
completed by every employee (U.S. Citizens included) within 3 days
of employment to verify their eligibility to work in the U.S.
Employers who don't do this correctly are ripe for civil and
criminal penalties and sanctions. The form is not difficult - but
hazards exist! Richard Daley from the U.S. Department of Labor,
Kevin Morrissey from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization
Service, and Employment and Immigration attorneys from Merson &
Lee PC, a local Cape Cod law firm, will present a workshop on the
do's and don'ts of I-9 Employment Verification.
There is a nominal charge ($10) for the workshop. Businesses
sending more than one person are charged a reduced rate of $5 for
each additional attendee. To register, Call 508-862-0700, ext. 516,
or register by clicking below.
