House Ways & Means Budget Cuts MOTT Funds |
 |
The House of Representatives released their
budget this week in what all expected to be a tough budget season.
The line item that funds the state travel & tourism office was
cut by 50%. Also, in an outside section of the budget, there is
langugage calling for the repeal of the Mass. Tourism Fund which was
created 12 years ago in order to organize how tourism is promoted
and how those promotions are funded.
Amendments were filed on Friday, 4/25, on behalf of the tourism
industry to restore monies to the office of travel and tourism. The
Cape Cod Chamber, one of the thirteen regional tourism councils, has
worked with the other RTC's, Mass. Lodging and private industry to
organize support for these amendments and to communicate the value
of the significant revenues generated by tourism in the region and
state.
Once all amendments have been filed, we will be reviewing them
and continuing to organize support for the third largest industry in
the Commonwealth. We will also be communicating with the Senate Ways
& Means committee who is working on their version of a state
budget.
