Workshare Program: Holding onto and paying your staff in slow times
    .
November 20, 8 - 9:30 am at the Cape Cod & Islands Assoc. of Realtors, 22 Mid Tech Drive, West Yarmouth. Presenter: Denise Johnson, Massachusetts Division of Employment and Training.

Worksharing helps companies with full time employees who pay into unemployment insurance, but experience slowdowns. It permits workers in a company to share reduced work hours while also collecting unemployment insurance benefits to supplement their reduced wages. This allows you to keep your skilled, trained workers; maintain the continuity of your skilled workforce, stay prepared for your business's upswing by keeping your workforce in lace; avoiding the time and expense of training new employees when business does increase; preserve productivity by avoiding the insecurity and organizational disruption from layoffs. Find out if you can use this, and how it helped the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce deal with post September 11th budget reductions.

Who should come: Businesses with workers eligible to receive regular unemployment insurance who have or will have temporary business slowdowns.

Part of the Fall Morning Series for Business Owners and Managers: Making you Business More Profitable. Sponsored in part by CCBT.

USA TODAY: "Leisure travel is flying high"
    .
A recent article by Gene Sloan in USA TODAY sites the Travel Industry Association forecast of a 3% rise in leisure travel for the next year.

The article goes on to state that while Americans are traveling, they are watching their spending by staying closer to home, driving rather than flying and booking at the last minute.

CHIP BISHOP COMMUNICATIONS TO DIRECT MEDIA RELATIONS FOR CAPE COD NATIONAL SEASHORE'S MARCONI CENTENNIAL
    .
Chip Bishop Communications and Management of West Dennis has been selected to help direct media relations for the Cape Cod National Seashore's celebration marking the 100th anniversary of Guglielmo Marconi's transatlantic wireless transmission. The event consists of a series of public events taking place this fall and leading to a daylong observance on January 18, 2003.

Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore, a non-profit organization that supports public use and enjoyment of the national park, is providing funding for the media campaign. "We hope to make the public more aware of the significance of what happened on Cape Cod a century ago and how that event sparked the global communications revolution," said Ivan Ace of Eastham, president of Friends.
