2003 Cape Cod Golf Passport
The new bigger, more extensive 2003 Cape Cod Golf Passport will be on
sale from Friday through Christmas Eve at the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis.
The Chamber staff will be on hand to sell the gift on every golfers wish
list from 10 a.m. each morning.
The Passport has more courses - 28 of the Cape's 29 public facilities -
plus local restaurants and hotels offering discounts to play, eat or stay
at their establishments.
The values offered by the courses are even better than last year and we
all know what a bargain those offers were. For accommodations, some of the
participating hotels are offering up to 20% off room rates seven nights a
week. Restaurants have reduced their costs including some with a free meal
for every four persons dining out at that establishment.
And the best news is that the Passport costs the same as last year,
just $79 for savings that can add up to over $1,750
The Chamber sales team will be located in the Mall next to the gift
wrap counter in front of Filenes. We hope to see you there.

TIA FORECASTS FLAT WINTER TRAVEL SEASON |
 |
WASHINGTON, DC -- According to the latest
seasonal forecast from the Travel Industry Association of America
(TIA), travel by Americans will remain relatively flat this winter
(December, January, February). Americans are expected to take more
than 139 million pleasure person-trips during the winter 2002-2003
season, up just one-half percent from last winter. The slower travel
growth this year follows the record winter travel season last year.
Thus, it will still be one of the stronger winter travel seasons in
recent years. A person-trip is one person traveling 50 miles or more
from home, one way.
According to TIA's Winter 2002-2003 Travelometer, 71 percent of
travelers intend to travel for pleasure or personal reasons while 39
percent plan to travel for business or conventions this winter.
"With travel and tourism's recovery on uneven ground during the
past year, the relative strength of this winter travel forecast is
good news," said William S. Norman, president and CEO of the Travel
Industry Association of America. "But we have a way to go before the
industry is fully recovered. We have a number of initiatives in
place for 2003 aimed at consumers at home and in our key
international markets that will help restore the vitality of the
travel and tourism industry."
Family members continue to be the most popular travel companions.
Among those planning a winter pleasure trip, 52 percent will take
along their spouse and 28 percent will take children with them.
Eleven percent will travel with friends, 11 percent will travel with
other family members, 5 percent will travel with their parents and 5
percent will travel as part of a group. Seventeen percent will
travel alone and one percent will travel with grandparents.

Attn: Bed & Breakfasts & Inns |

On November 18, 2002, the B&B Committee
held a workshop featuring a presentation on how to promote your inn
as a destination. The presenter, of Johnson & Wales University,
gave some terrific tips and ideas to the innkeepers present. He
included some trend information as well, which highlighted the
growing interest in eco-tours, sporting events, packages that
include dinner vouchers and vouchers or gift certificates for goods
and services in general (at a nearby spa for example.) Following the
formal presentation the B&B group enjoyed fresh Wellfleet
oysters from the Naked Oyster in Hyannis and wine samplings from the
Belfry Inn.
In order to continue their mission of providing professional
development for B&B owners and innkeepers, the committee would
like your feedback on topics of interest. Please click through to
the quick survey and tell us what your preferences are!
On March 3, 2003 the B&B Committee has planned another event
that should interest all. Still in the planning stages, draft
outline of the event is as follows:
March 3, 2003, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cape Cod Regional Transportation Plan |
 |
The Cape Cod Regional Transportation Plan (RTP)
is the long range planning document for our Metropolitan Planning
Organization (MPO). This document defines transportation goals for
the region and develops projects to support the achievement of these
goals. Projects from the RTP are eventually moved to the
Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) which is a short term
improvement program that is established based on expected funding.
The RTP is updated every three years and the update of the 2000
RTP for 2003 is underway. I have been assigned the task of
developing this revision and plan to make it an extensive overhaul.
The attached information and questionnaire pertain to the RTP and
include initial goals, potential projects, and my objectives for the
RTP. This information will change based on comments from you and
others but are provided as a starting point for the RTP discussions.
Your participation in this process is appreciated and ask that
you return the attached questionnaire to me of the Cape Cod
Commission and that call or email Clay Schofield at (508) 363-3828 /
[email protected] if you have any questions or
comments. The RTP is available on-line at www.gocapecod.org/rtp/home.htm
if you would like to review the previous Regional Transportation
Plan.
